Detailed Information

We purchased Silver Shadow as a yearling from Edie and Barry Robertson of Berry. We especially wanted Aethon bloodlines as my first endurance gelding Merrinvale Voss was by him and his record was awesome reaching 5000kms without a vet out; 3 Shahzadas [2nd,3rd & 4th] and 3 Quities[6th in 1984] all less than 14 hrs.

Silver is by Poldark who I admired as a youngster with his brother Podarge at The Crofts where Clare Proudfoot ‘proudly’ showed me several of her stallions when I was looking for my first endurance horse. Poldark was of course by the mighty Aethon out of Bettina who we subsequently leased quite some time later. Silver’s dam Elusive is now owned by Ron Malone, a lovely little Aethon mare out of the Cathay [still retained I believe by Ralvon Stud] Cathay was by Mustafa out of Flirt [Silwan x Moonamet by Silver Moonlight]. The Silver son Kintamani Silver Motif [ex Kelkette Park Dallas (Mustafa) is the image of Mustafa and moves with his extreme grace. Motif has been the most successful Silver progeny to date with around 3,700kms, 2 Quilties, State Ride and Shahzada to his credit.

We began competing with Silver as a 6yo after a brief Show career where he gained several Championships and Reserves at A class shows. His first assignment was the very tough Mt Macquarie 100kms which he came through with flying colours after very little work. After two more relatively easy 80kms, his first ride out of novice was the Shahzada 400kms, where he competed alongside his very experienced buddy Kintamani Fosta who won that year ridden by myself. Alan came in a close 4th on Silver with a fantastic time of 34+ hrs and a very exuberant flying trot out at the finish. He returned to complete Shahzada again in 1997 this time ridden by Mat Thuaux carrying over 90ks most days for a gutsy effort and an average pulse for the week of 36. This was not long after his first Quilty at Watagan Mtns ridden by Alan, Silver went on to complete over 3,000kms with many top 5 placings

Silver is a true gentleman with one of the sweetest natures of any horse we have owned and he passes this on to many of his progeny, sought after for this nature and endurance potential. Many have flourished in this field, with 16 yellow book and several blue book horses competing around the world today. Nine (9) have been exported; 7 to the UAE; 1 to Bahrain and the colt Kintamani Silver Scenario [ex Duo Park Flamur] to stand at stud in China and hopefully compete in endurance when the sport becomes established.

We currently have 2 purebred colts by Silver determining which one to keep, both out of Crabbet mares. There is also some young stock coming through with a full brother to Kintamani Mistral broken in and ready to compete in trainers in 2010 and a lovely 2yo filly out of Revelwood Lara. This year will see the first of his Tasmanian progeny competing as they have just turned 5. Whilst standing at Keryn & Chris Mahoney’s Deloraine stud, he sired at least 7 potential endurance kids.

Several other endurance homes have welcomed Silver kids recently including Lee & Jason Duff [again!], Nicole Ptycia, Robin Gossip and Di Cameron, Frank Mollema and Karen Rhodes to mention a few.

Silver is currently at the Equine Artificial Breeding Centre near Holbrook being collected for AI purposes and we are retaining frozen semen for the future as the old boy won’t be with us forever.

Detailed Information

Several years ago we sadly lost part of our family, namely Ragan+S our Arabian stallion who Alan had purchased as a yearling.

Ragan was the founding sire of our Kintamani Stud and after 24 years with us, his presence is felt everywhere at home, especially in his progeny. Ragan had a reputation of producing sound conformation and fantastic legs as can be attested by the feats of his stock, especially Kintamni Fosta+CH+CH+CH who after an initial withdrawal from his first Shahzada at 5 years old [his first endurance ride], went on to not only complete the next 10 that he entered, he was mostly placed in the Top 5, with two wins to his credit. His temperament was also a testament to Ragan, as not only did he carry 6 different riders around Shahzada successfully, he carried our son Mark [then aged 8]around his trainers and three 80kms all willingly, but on a loose rein. *Separate story under Past endurance horses.

Ragan gained his SUPREME in the AAROM with Progeny, Performance and Working [one of the few stallions to gain it in this way - a working horse producing working horses]

Ragan has been out there ‘DOING IT’ right from the word go, travelling to every show on the South Coast as a youngster and later to many Nationals, where he was regularly placed in harness, saddle, costume and progeny classes.

Ragan also attained many A class championships in harness and regularly placed under saddle and in hand, with the real winners coming from his early offspring.

One son Kintamani Rad also attained his Supreme AAROM in working [dressage] performance and halter, was five times champion ridden Arab gelding and once went on to Supreme Ridden Arabian at the National Capital show. Photograph under show horses. At this same show around the same years, Ragan’s daughters Anchors Shandarra Miss and Karabil Tintinara both were champion partbred mares under saddle. His grandson Pinosa Park Nichodemus was also a multi supreme under saddle and in hand.

Ragan’s endurance progeny include :

  • Kintamani Fosta10 Shahzada + 3 Quilty and 4 x160ks and 8,500kms—separate story*

  • Kintamani Ragindi who was campaigned by the Counsell family of Batemans Bay. Ragindi was out of Janil Razindi and is now competing successfully in Bahrain after his very successful win at the NSW State Championships 160kms at Del Rio in 07. Wins and BC horse awards at The Rock, Tumbarumba, Bungendore in 2007 & 3rd & BC at Canberra and Tumbarumba 06.

  • Kintamani CharismaRiz is still competing aged 16 and there will be a story about her on the mare site* Riz was successful at State Ride Manilla 160kms in 2008 and Tom Quilty in 2009 as well as Shahzada in 2006.

  • Salamay Naomi a 5000kms+ mare including State 160km + Snowy 160 & Shahzada (5th in 05 & completed 06)

  • Kintamani MistNSW State 160 + 1800kms Kintamani Fern—14hr.Qld Quilty 160 + 2000kms

  • Turon Valley Snow Prince Myrtleford Quilty 160kms + 1000+kms

  • Balcaskie CooeeShahzada and State 160km and many junior wins/BC

  • Kintamani Raz - Yellow book top 5 placing gelding and show horse

  • Kintamani KahluaYellow book mare

  • Salamay MahalaYellow book mare

  • Brigenbrong TeaganYellow book mare

  • Sanlargo Mystique - many LW placings including Manilla 2005, 2nd of 20 and Top Ten overall of 91 starters. 2nd LW at Mt Macquarie and Canberra and fittest horse 2004. 2nd LW Zone 2 Champs 160kms at Tooraweenah.

  • Kintamani SaphireYellow book mare 2009

  • Kintamani Rose Maree owned by Louise McCormack who is a yellow book mare recently retired to stud and has now foaled a lovely filly.

  • Kintamani Bartholemew 1st MW Sth Coast Zone 100kms 08; 1st Jnr Shahzada 80 and 2nd Jnr Batemans Bay 08.

  • Kintamani Maya Blue book trainers

  • Kintamani Jazz Man by OP Silver Shadow (out of successful Quilty mare Kintamani Fern) – The first Ragan grandson to compete and won the 09 Snowy Zone Champs 160kms junior and 2nd Junior at the 09 Shahzada.

Ragan himself had successfully completed 2,220kms in endurance rides including Shahzada and Quilty buckles; and 2,440kms in harness drives, including a 2nd place in Melbourne to Sydney and many drive/ride combos of between 160kms and 200kms; mini-marathons of 240kms etc. Giving him a total mileage of 4,660kms.

The weekend before his death was the Woodstock ride where his daughters Salamay Naomi and Salamay Mahala [bred by Ursula & Bernie Quinn] completed together, with Naomi successful at the 2000 Windeyer State Ride 160kms a few weeks later.

At the time of his death, he had 3 fillies on the ground, with 4 more foals due, 100% for his last season at 23 years.

Altogether Ragan produced 24 fillies and 16 colts and of these 40, 13 are successful endurance horses [8 successful at 160kms]; A further 9 are successful show horses.

Whilst on the coast, Ragan was regularly booked to take the bride to church and has been the only horse ever allowed access to Albatross Air base for a wedding, where he had paratroopers falling out of the sky around him.

Ragan is sadly missed as part of our everyday lives, an entertainer, a good mate and a great ride!
